Many bars, restaurants and discos offer from evening to early morning hours the scope of all sorts of entertainment. How did this world-famous yacht harbor started?
The successful businessman and building contractor from Madrid, Don Jose Banus, came 1963, the first time to Marbella to spend his holidays. This small, idyllic seaside town on the Costa del Sol, 70 km from Gibraltar, was already a popular tourist resort for monarchs and celebrities from around the world. Don Jose Banus saw the rise of the tourism industry and soon became obsessed and inspired by the idea to develop the yacht harbor as a further attraction for Marbella. He bought the former Colonia El Angel who stretched from the Rio Verde to Rio Guadaiza, far more than 1,000,000 square meters. The farm produced agricultural products and had large sugar cane and orange plantations.
In 1967, construction began on the harbor. It created business lines, bars, restaurants, homes and around the harbor 700 meters of beach equipment, everything the traveler and tourist. In 1970, the port inaugurated and was awarded the gold medal for tourism merit. With 915 berths, and intake of yachts up to 115 meters, the harbor quickly became known worldwide. Soon this place attracted kings, princes, presidents and VIP's from all countries.

More or less 7 million people annually come and visit the harbor and during the high season ca.45.000 people pass by daily.
Visit Marbella Old Town and Beach Promenade
Marbella is southern Spain's famous seaside resort on the Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga. The structure of the old town still has the characteristic Moorish irregular street pattern contrasting with the open spaces that were created right after the conquest by the Christians. In the center of Marbella is the Orange Square, meeting place for Spaniards and tourists alike with the Town Hall as the center piece. The ideal place to relax with a drink or just a coffee under the orange trees. At Night Time here you can experience large festivals in true Spanish style. The town hall itself was built in 1485 and the old city walls date from the 16th Century and are still in excellent condition. The church Capilla Santiago Apostol is also from the 16th Century. Take the road from the old town to the sea via the tropical park with it's beautiful fountains. Continue on the Avenida del Mar, lined with its unique sculptures by Salvador Dali. This is one of the most beautiful routes through the city. The Avenida del Mar beach opens onto the Paseo Marítimo, where the visitor can experience uninterupted views of the sea. Great to enjoy cozy tapas bars and restaurants.
